Is the television ruining the political process in the United States? It’s an interesting question and one that has no definite answer but one worth looking into nonetheless. We already know that thanks the the enormous pockets of the two main political parties in the country that there is very little room for a third party. No one has the man power, visibility, or money to stand on the main stage and take control of the political process.
So what that leaves us with is two parties to try and work together to solve issues where the outcome will have effects on many future generations. This is a huge deal and there is no way around that but the pot gets muddled when you look at the situation and see more and more these days that neither side can get along.
But is it that television is to blame? The truth is that the television landscape is cluttered with political shows. The problem is in the people they have representing these shows. Long gone are the days of unbiased news anchors hosting these shows just trying to get a good interview and hear both sides of the story. As a matter of fact all we are seeing these days are very opinionated and biased people who make a living bashing the other side in control of these high profile shows.
As a young and impressionable person there is a lot of sway that these people can have over you. They can effect the way you think and feel about certain political issues. What’s worse is often the kind of reporting they do on these shows lacks all journalistic integrity. For that reason alone we have a tremendous divide in these shows and it might be dividing the people and that’s never a good thing.
